Ukraine claims nearly 14,000 documented Russian chemical attacks since Feb 2022
The head of communications of the Ukrainian army's 704th separate CBRN brigade, Andrii Popchuk, has said that Russia has used dangerous chemical to attack Ukrainian troops almost 14,000 times since the start of the full-scale invasion in February 2022.
Speaking to Armiia TV, Popchuk said that his unit conducts radiation, chemical, and biological reconnaissance, collects and analyses samples, and detects chemical agents, and monitors Russian use of such chemicals.
According to the Ministry of Defence, Russian forces used such chemical attacks mostly episodically in 2023, however their intensity increased sharply at the beginning of 2024. As of the first half of 2026, their overall use of chemical munitions remains consistently high across the entire frontline.
