Small IED found at playground in Christchurch, New Zealand
A New Zealand Defence Force bomb disposal team was call to a playground in Christchurch on Tuesday 8 September after a passerby found an explosive.
According to New Zealand media reports, police say they were told about a suspicious item at Larch Reserve in Casebrook just before midday.
"The item was investigated and determined to be a small improvised explosive device which was removed and disposed of in a safe manner," a spokesperson for the New Zealand Defence Force said.
"Anyone who discovers a potentially dangerous item, should always exercise caution until the item is deemed safe by an expert.
"If you do discover something that might be dangerous, remain clear of the item and contact New Zealand Police as soon as possible."
