Police and military personnel in the Philippines foiled a bombing attempt after recovering an IED on early Monday morning, 14 September. The police said that the recovery was made several hours before the opening of the polling precincts for the Bangsamoro parliamentary elections.

According to a report from the Philippine News Agency, the IED was discovered around 01:15 during an operation in Barangay Balobo in Quezon province. The police said the provincial EOD and canine units safely neutralised the device through controlled detonation at about 03:30.

The police said the IED consisted of an electronic blasting cap, about one bar of Trinitrotoluene, cellular phone keypad, nine-volt battery terminal, three-inch concrete nails, a plastic receptacle and several wires.

"The IED was discharged through a controlled detonation following its discovery," the Lamitan City Police Station said in its report on Monday. Their investigators documented the site and submitted the recovered evidence to the police forensic unit for chemical analysis.
