Maoist ammunition dump busted in Odisha, Chhattisgarh, India
Indian security forces on Wednesday 26 August unearthed a major ammunition dump in a forested area along the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border, recovering firearms, improvised explosive devices, Claymore mines and other explosive materials.
According to United News of India, acting on leads provided by surrendered Maoists, a team of the District Voluntary Force launched a search around 05:30 in the forests located along the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border.
According to police, the recovered arms, explosives and other materials are suspected to have been concealed by cadres of the Maoist Andhra-Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee. The materials are also suspected to have been intended for use against civilians and security forces.
The seizure included three country-made guns, one 5kg IED, two 3kg IEDs, one 2kg IED, two Claymore mines and two shop-case IEDs. The team also recovered a bundle of Codex wire, 10 metres of wire, three 9-volt batteries and a radio antenna.
Among other items seized were Maoist banners and literature, an olive-green Maoist uniform, four metres of red cloth, a backpack, raincoat, jerkins, knife, torch, lighter and scissors. Several personal-use items, including medicines, toothpaste, toothbrushes, oil bottles, sandals, mirror, spoon, spectacles box and stationery, were also found in the dump.
