South Korea conducts counterterrorism, CBRN, C-UAS drill ahead of summit
The South Korean government conducted on 11 September 2026 a counterterrorism drill in preparation for the 1st Korea-Central Asia Summit, scheduled to take place in Seoul on the 16 September. According to information from the Korean outlet The Chosun Daily, the drill focused on responding to drone attacks.
The exercise was held at the Incheon International Airport Advanced Complex Aviation Group site and involved 250 participants from 16 institutions. Approximately 600 people, including 200 citizen observers and 27 diplomatic officials stationed in South Korea, observed the training.
The drill simulated various terrorist scenarios that could occur at an airport, including drone terrorism, CBRN and explosive, terrorism, aircraft hijacking, airport facility occupation and hostage situations.
The Korean Counterterrorism Centre stated: "Drone threats targeting airports have become a real concern both domestically and internationally... We inspected Incheon International Airport’s detection, identifications and neutralisation systems against FPV drones and swarm drones."
