IED explosion on minibus kills, injures several near Damascus
Several people were killed and injured when an IED detonated aboard a passenger minibus in Jaramana, near the Syrian capital of Damascus, on Thursday 6 August.
State-run Al-Ikhbariya TV said the device exploded inside the minibus, killing and injuring several people, but provided neither a casualty toll nor further details about the circumstances of the blast.
Syria’s state news agency SANA cited Najib al-Naasan, director of the Referral, Ambulance and Emergency Directorate at the Health Ministry, who is reported to have said that seven people were injured in the explosion. Al-Naasan added that forensic teams were dealing with human remains found at the scene in accordance with established procedures.
Nearby hospitals and emergency departments were placed on high alert, while emergency teams were mobilised for rapid response to and transport of the injured.
Footage that emerged on social media in the aftermath showed the destroyed minibus with debris scattered across the road and in front of residential buildings.
