Georgia, US DTRA conduct field exercise on chemical, biological threats
The State Security Service of Georgia (SSSG) and the US Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) have jointly conducted an inter-agency field exercise in the Black Sea coastal city of Batumi.
Aimed at strengthening the country’s preparedness for chemical and biological threats, the NEXUS Georgia 2026 exercise brought together representatives of Georgian state agencies responsible for CBRN security, the SSSG said in a post on 2 September.
Participants included specialised units from the State Security Service, the ministries of internal affairs, defence, health, economy and finance, as well as other relevant government bodies.
During the exercise, participating agencies responded to simulated chemical and biological incidents under three separate scenarios conducted in real-world settings. According to the SSSG, the drills were designed to test existing standard operating procedures and identify potential gaps in incident response and inter-agency coordination.
The SSSG also said another simulation exercise is scheduled to take place in Mtskheta on 8 September, focusing on practical response procedures for chemical and explosive threats in crowded public spaces.
