$22.4 million USD landmine clearance project approved in Vietnam
A landmine clearance project in the central Vietnamese province of Quang Tri has been approved.
Local authorities in the province announced that it had approved the project, set to take place between 2026-2030, on 26 August. Mines Advisory Group will provide the funding for both survey and clearance of landmines and unexploded ordnance in northern Quang Tri, "with the aim of improving safety and security for local communities, promoting socio-economic development in UXO-affected areas and contributing to sustainable development goals", according to Vietnam Plus.
The project is expected to clear more than 38.8 square kilometres of land for community development, raise public awareness and knowledge of explosive hazards, and strengthen coordination and cooperation in humanitarian action, peace, stability, development and environmental protection. It will also produce around 15,000 mine-risk education materials.
Mines Advisory Group had previously operated in the former Quang Binh province since 2003, and implemented a $16.2 million USD project in Quang Binh between 2021 and 2025.
