2026 US Army biodefence strategy announced
The 2026 United States Army biodefence strategy has been announced.
In a post on LinkedIn, the Chemical and Biological Defense Program said that the strategy would establish "a modernised framework to protect our forces, enhance readiness and stay ahead of evolving global biological threats".
Released by the US Army Nuclear & Counter-Weapons of Mass Destruction Agency, the document has three strategic focus areas. These include:
Whole-of-army integration: Transitioning biodefence responsibilities across all force elements rather than relying solely on specialised CBRNE units.
DOTMLPF-P modernisation: Driving key updates across doctrine, training, leadership development and materiel integration to impact soldiers and civilian personnel enterprise-wide.
Advanced diagnostics & surveillance: Leveraging cutting-edge environmental surveillance and rapid diagnostic capabilities to ensure real-time threat detection and situational awareness on the modern battlefield.
"New front in modern warfare"
On their website, the US Army Nuclear & Counter-Weapons of Mass Destruction Agency wrote that their adversaries the " biological domain as new front in modern warfare" and "biological agents [...] that can neutralise the Army’s ability to project and sustain combat power globally".
"The Army’s 2035 end state is an Army that possesses the institutional knowledge, advanced early warning, and hardened equipment needed to deploy, fight and win decisively in a biologically contested environment," the agency added.
